Cape Bernier is a family run vineyard located on the slopes of an ancient volcanic range, overlooking stunning Marion Bay on Tasmania’s east coast. The maritime climate and rich vineyard soils provide ideal growing conditions for cool climate varietals. Made to showcase the terroir, the 2017 Chardonnay displays characteristic honeysuckle flavours complemented by baked bread aromas from ageing in French oak & balanced by soft acids arising from the 2017 extended growing season. Drink now or cellar until 2023.
The 2017 Chardonnay is a superb example of cool-climate Chardonnay with crisp acidity balanced by a silky mouth feel. Vintage 2017 was exceptionally long allowing the fruit to develop some warmer climate characters such as melon and honeysuckle alongside the usual cool climate characteristic green apple aromas. The wine is pale gold in colour with a complex bouquet of fruit mellowed by sweet honey and baked bread aromas from maturation for 9 months in French oak. The slow ripening from the extended growing season is showcased by good acidity and depth of palate.
