It’s easy to visit Cape Bernier. We are in Bream Creek only 50 minutes drive from the Salamanca area in Hobart and 30 minutes drive from Hobart Airport. Our vineyard has exceptional views of the stunningly beautiful Marion Bay.

We have a small cellar door set up that is by appointment and we are happy to give you a guided tour of the vineyard and show you where our wines are truly made. If you would like to bring a picnic and have lunch in the vineyard, this is also possible, but again please call in advance to confirm. Otherwise there are some lovely spots to grab a bite to eat close by.

If you are coming to visit us you may also want to see some of the other activities to do in the surrounding area in our Explore Bream Creek section. And you can find us on Google Maps.

We hope to see you soon!

Cape Bernier is located in the pristine environment of Bream Creek and Marion Bay that is great for producing fantastic cool climate wines. We love to have visitors and those of you that do make the effort to come out for a visit won’t be disappointed with Alastair happy to give you a guided tour. We do ask however that you book your visit in advance.

We recommend that anyone doing the drive out to visit us also take time to stop at some other attractions in and around Bream Creek, Marion Bay and the Tasman Peninsular. Eaglehawk Neck has coastal rock formations - the Tasman Arch, Blowhole and the Devil’s Kitchen - the Tessellated Pavement, great fishing and diving. Port Arthur is of course famous for it’s Historic Site and convict heritage.  Cape Bernier is about half way from Hobart to Port Arthur.

Staying within the immediate Bream Creek area, we suggest that you visit Vines and Designs at the Copping Museum - they have great food and beverages, local art works, and the legendary Colonial Museum! It’s a great place for coffee or lunch, and to fill an hour or two.

Vines and Designs also feature a selection of regional wines including Yaxley Estate, Norfolk Bay, Six Friends, Bream Creek and of course Cape Bernier too. They also offer a selection of spirits and liqueurs and Gillespies alcoholic ginger beer another product of Bream Creek.

We also recommend lunch at the Waterfront Cafe, Dunalley. Ben and Steph have a great lunch menu and also feature Cape Berniner wines on their wine list.

Marion Bay beach is about 4 km of beautiful sand and makes a great place to stop, chill out and restore the senses with a long walk along the beach. The beach and dunes are a bird sanctuary.

If you are planning on visiting in March, the 3rd Saturday is the ever popular Bream Creek Show. Being a good member of the Bream Creek community Cape Bernier always has a stand at the Bream Creek Show where our wines and other products are available for tasting and sales.

We are more than happy to provide some other ideas or tips on places to visit on your way to and from Cape Bernier. Feel free to contact us and we’d be happy to answer your questions when you make your booking to visit.

Kind regards,

Cape Bernier

Cape Bernier has a policy to only ship in multiples of 6 bottles (6-packs or 12-packs), as the shipping costs for these sizes is reasonable. Consequently, customers can only purchase in multiples of 6 bottles.

At Cape Bernier we use Australia Post logistics to deliver wines to their final destination.

Whilst we care deeply about providing choice and flexibility for our customers, the cost of shipping a single bottle of wine increases the cost of wine for customers by almost 50%. Therefore it is inefficient and unsustainable to ship single bottles of wine.

Sign up to our newsletter so we can tell you about events in your area where you can come to taste our wines.

We appreciate your understanding.

Well, that’s the Cape Bernier Vineyard vine pruning finished for another year!

Pruning evokes such a strange set of conflicting emotions: at one level there is the optimism of fixing up all the blunders and chaos of the past. At another there is the frustration that vines insist on growing in ways not seen in the book. It’s a slow and somewhat tedious process but we almost feel a sense of anti-climax when it’s finally finished.  And of course there’s the Tasmanian winter weather to contend with - it’s a character forming experience all round!

At Cape Bernier all stages of the pruning process are by hand with the only machines being humans and secateurs.

Recent market place events include Tasmania Unbottled, the Tasmanian Wine Industry’s road show to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. We missed Brisbane this time but had a great response from both Consumers and the Trade in Sydney and Melbourne with great support from our two distributors; Alex in Sydney, and Mark and Sheona in Melbourne. Thank you so much to you all.

While in Sydney the 2013 edition of James Halliday’s “Australian Wine Companion 2013″ hit the streets. Cape Bernier has a “4.5-star winery” rating and all of our six wines rated from 94 to 89 pts!

Once again, these results demonstrate the truth of the idea that “great wines are made in the vineyard”. Our current release Pinot Noir 2010 rated 94 pts, while our Chardonnay 2010 is rated 92 pts! The Pinot Gris and Pinot Rose were both awarded 90 pts.

Our wine rating results also show the value of wild yeast fermentation in our two best wines: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

At Cape Bernier we work with the sometimes difficult and challenging conditions of our very cool coastal site to grow fruit and produce wine which reflects the site and its unique characteristics or “terroir”. These latest results provide a great sense of achievement!
